Supporting An Taisce,
The National Trust for Ireland
Protection for Ireland’s Natural & Built Environment
At Friends of An Taisce, we champion the important work of An Taisce, The National Trust for Ireland. We raise awareness and charitable donations in order to support and protect Ireland’s built and natural heritage for future generations.
Our fundraising efforts support vital initiatives that span three broad categories:
Heritage: the safeguarding of Ireland's architectural and archeological heritage
Environment: an urgent and effective Irish response to the climate and biodiversity emergencies
Community: promoting meaningful connections with nature and the built environment
Buildings
An Taisce is the custodian of a portfolio of heritage properties in trust, including historic buildings and nature reserves, for which it maintains and safeguards.
An Taisce has also created the Buildings at Risk Register for Ireland, which was developed in response to a concern at the growing number of structures that are vacant and falling into a state of disrepair. The Register provides information on structures of architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical interest throughout the country that are considered at risk.
Environment
An Taisce's is dedicated to addressing the climate and biodiversity crises while promoting human health and wellbeing, the creation of sustainable communities and the protection of the rich built heritage of Ireland. There advocacy work is supported by a team of technical staff, interns, volunteers and many local association members across the country who work on issues and projects affecting the environment.
Community
An Taisce develops programs that engages local communities to help protect and care for Ireland’s susceptible natural and built environment, some programs working in conjunction with Government. Programs include:
Clean Coasts, helping to protect Ireland’s waterways, coastline, seas, ocean and marine life.
Natural Spring Clean, a widely recognised and successful anti-litter initiative.
Climate Ambassadors, training and support for individuals taking action on climate change.
