The Historic Properties Redevelopment Program

‍In 2025 the Historic Properties Redevelopment Program was launched in Ireland, a revolving fund modeled on successful initiatives across the USA. This approach encourages nonprofit preservation organizations to act as "developers of last resort," actively acquiring endangered historic properties to restore and return them to appropriate public or private use.

‍We are currently working on projects to safeguard some unique historical properties, reflective of the cultural build heritage of Ireland, and we will be able to announce the details for the projects once confirmed.

You will be able to follow properties on our website and social media accounts as they are actively restored, allowing you to see the traditional skills that contribute to preserving endangered historical properties of cultural importance in real time.

‍In 2026, we applied to the World Monuments Fund Watch to have Irish traditional thatched stone cottages designated as cultural heritage of importance, a recognition that highlights cultural heritage in need of protection and preservation support.

‍You can see the portfolio of cultural heritage properties that An Taisce - The National Trust are currently custodian of here.
